New Delhi: A video is viral on social media site Twitter where a group of women can be seen attacking a man with a claim that these are Hindu women and they are thrashing a Muslim man for his “obnoxious” behaviour.
The video with the said claim was shared by many users, some with more than 10K followers.
This user @satviksoul is followed by PM Shri Narendra Modi on Twitter.
NOTE: The same video was viral with the same claim in January 2023.
Fact Check/Verification
We used the inVid tool to get the keyframes of the video and search each keyframe on Google Reverse Image Search.
We came across this article by Parda Phash which states that eleven women have been sent to judicial custody for beating a man and his family members in Kerala’s Chalakudy. The man was thrashed for mercilessly for he was accused of morphing an image of the Church’s Pastor.
Using the keywords “Chalakudy+morphed image” we came across this article by The Times Of India dated January 8, 2023.
According to the articles the incident took place at Emperor Emmanuel Retreat Centre in Thrissur Kerala in January 2023 where a group of women dragged out (from a car) and attacked Plathottathil Veettil Shaji (a defector from Church) of Muriyad, his wife, his children and two other relatives travelling along with him; Shaji was accused of morphing and sharing the Pastor’s picture on social media. The women were booked under section 307 of the IPC
The women attacking and the family being attacked, all hail from the same religion and there was no communal angle in this incident.
Conclusion
Thus, The Searchlight concludes the video is viral with the false claim of Hindu women attacking Muslim man fir misbehaving.
