New Delhi: A video is circulating on social media websites Twitter and Facebook claiming that minorities in Karnataka are celebrating Congress victory in Assembly elections by slaughtering a cow on a Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) flag.
Since Congress won the Karnataka state assembly elections with majority securing 135 seats, there have been many instances of fake news and misinformation around the social media with respect to minorities, especially the Muslims. Many of these claims originate from RW affiliated influencers, sportspersons, politicians and RW leaning journalists and sometimes from Member(s) of Parliament.

Fact Check/Verification
Using the inVid tool we extracted the keyframes from the video and searched them separately on Google Reverse Image Search. We then came across this article by Hindu Post dated 1 February 2022.
The article informs about the arrest of three men in Lilong, Manipur after they slaughtered a cow over the BJP flag. We searched Google using the keyword “Lilong, cow slaughter” and came across these articles on The Times of India and Imphal Free Press dated 2 February 2022 and 31 January 2022 respectively.
According to the articles, “a cow with its head on a BJP flag was slaughtered by some villagers in a protest against the denial of BJP tickets for the ensuing Manipur Assembly Election. Many supporters of the intending candidates who were rejected by the BJP were also seen torching BJP flags and banners on the street as a sign of protest. The protesters were heard using expletives against Chief Minister N Biren Singh.”
